Product Review: Maybelline Great Lash Lots Of Lashes Mascara

A few years ago, when I was beginning to discover makeup, I remember that one of my first mascara purchases was the infamous Maybelline Great Lash. It had a cult following and it was one of the best selling mascaras all over. Not to mention, the iconic pink and green tube is super cute. Have I mentioned how much of a sucker for packaging I am? If its cute, bright, and girly, I am all over it. Well, while I was a makeup novice, I still knew what vavoom lashes were. Great Lash did not give me a noticeable difference when it came to volume and length. Not to mention, it clumped like crazy. I never took a second look at Great Lash, again. I am sure that Great Lash is loved by many, but it just wasn't for me.

Now its the year 2011, and here I am with Great Lash again. But this time, its not the original kind. While at Wal-Mart, I spotted the newest addition to the Great Lash family, Maybelline's Great Lash Lots Of Lashes ($4.24) in very black. The brush shape, and plastic bristles intrigued me. No surprise there since, I am a fan of the kind. So, ultimately I gave in and brought Great Lash Lots Of Lashes home with me.

Maybelline Great Lash Lots Of Lashes Mascara in Very Black

Product Facts (according to the packaging):

1. Washable
2. Provides a lot of volume
3. No clumping
4. Safe for those who wear contact lenses
5. Ophthalmologist tested
6, The bristles work to help grab every lash, for volume achievement

Experience/Thoughts:
First, the packaging is adorable-very girly, and classic. I also like that the size of this mascara isn't huge, so it wont tale up any space in your makeup bag. That's a huge plus for me because, I tend to over-pack my makeup bag while away from home, so I could use all the space I can get. Ha!

I would say, my lashes have a decent amount of length to them. But what I really look for when it comes to mascara is volume. And I thought I was going to get it with this mascara. Unfortunately, I did not get as much volume as I wanted...just a tad, if any. What I did get was a lot of length, which was a nice surprise. I love mascaras that contain plastic bristles. Mainly in part because I find them to be more efficient when it comes to separating my lashes. While applying this mascara, I noticed that my lashes did not separate as nicely as I would have liked them to. They looked kind of sparse and had a splayed-out appearance. I also had a bit of clumping-action going on-especially if I applied 2 coats. I guess its nothing that a little lash comb can't fix.

Before And After Pictures:

Final Thoughts:
I was quite excited to try this mascara because I really thought it was going to exceed my expectations but alas, it was not the case. I don't think I will repurchase Great Lash Lots Of Lashes, again. But not all is lost. There are a few positive noteworthy mentions as well. Although it did not provide me with much volume, I will try layering this mascara over a volumizing mascara, seeing as it gives me nice length. I also love how dark it makes my lashes look. Another positive note was that I found that removing this mascara was quite easy. Actually, it was probably the easiest mascara I have ever removed. I use the N.Y.C. Eye Makeup Remover, and it does the job just fine. Lastly, it stayed in tact all day. I experienced no smudging, nor did I see any flakes under my eyes by the end of the day. Note: I applied this mascara at around 8:30AM and it was still holding on by 5:00PM.

What do you all think of Maybelline's Great Lash Lots Of Lashes mascara? Have any of you tried it?

Nail Of The Day: Deborah Lippman Across The Universe

Today, I want to share with you all what is probably one of the most gorgeous nail colors that I own. I have been on a glitter craze lately, when it comes to nail polishes, but this one takes the cake! I am talking about none other than Deborah Lippmann's Across The Universe Nail Lacquer ($18.00).

This nail color has been on my radar for quite some time, and I am so glad that I finally got the opportunity to really appreciate all its beauty and wonderfulness. Get ready for picture overload!

Across The Universe is a deep blackened navy jelly, that contains an array of beautiful silver, blue, and green toned, glitter particles. The dark navy blue jelly base color, alters the colors of the glitter/shimmer particles to make it appear more blue based, and add that something special.
I really like that there is a mix of bigger hexagonal chunks, and smaller and finer shimmers. I am happy to report that Deborah Lippmann's Across The Universe nail color does not contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, or Dibutyl Phthalate. But the best part? There is no animal testing!

The bottle is simply stunning. It looks very fancy and luxe. I found the brush very easy to control, and application was smooth as can be. I already had a base color on my nails-Zoya's Ibiza, which is a deep ink/blue that had been on my nails for about 5 days, so please pardon the little bits of chip and tip wear.

I layered Across The Universe over Zoya's Ibiza and it makes for quite a lovely combination. In the pictures above, I applied two coats of Across The Universe and I got a very nice glitter covering. To be frank, I think that one would be able to get away with one coat as well, seeing as the coverage is just as good.

Drying time was relatively quick. Though, I would give it a good 5-10 minutes for it to completely dry. Removal was not as difficult as it usually is with glitter nail colors. That was a surprise. Overall, Across The Universe is gorgeous. If you could have only one higher end nail color in your collection, I can't recommend Across The Universe enough. I will definitely be checking out more of Deborah Lippmann's nail colors in the future.

What do you all think of Across The Universe? What are your favorite Deborah Lippmann nail colors?

Disclaimer: I am in a sponsorship with Apothica.com. I was provided with a gift card, and this nail color was one of my purchases with the gift card. My reviews are 100% honest, not influenced, and my own.

Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes: Evening Soothe With Chamomile and White Tea

I have always been intrigued with Pond's line of skincare items. They have an endless cult following and their products have been around for years. While shopping for some makeup removing wipes, I spotted the Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes: Evening Soothe With Chamomile and White Tea ($6.79) at Rite Aid, and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally have a taste of Pond's.

I have tried my fair share of makeup removing towelettes, and although I have found some great ones that I would repurchase, I can't help but want to change it up and try different kinds as well. When it comes to makeup removing towelettes, I don't ask for much. I mainly look for ones that are safe for sensitive skin, won't leave an uncomfortable film behind, and of course-ones that get the job done!

Product Facts
1. Effective at removing waterproof mascara
2. Dermatologist tested
3. Hypoallergenic and great for sensitive skin
4. Safe for those who wear contact lenses
5. Allure Best Of Beauty 2010 Winner
6. Contains Vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that helps soothe the skin
7. Contains White Tea Extract which helps reveal younger looking skin
8. Contains Chamomile Extract which works to calm and soothe the skin

"Pond's Evening Soothe Towelettes gently clean away all traces of dirt and make-up, while calming the skin and senses. These soft, textured cloths wipe away the day while releasing the relaxing fragrance of Chamomile and White Tea." -Pond's (product info/description on packaging)

Thoughts
The Chamomile and White Tea fragrance truly is soothing-well, at least to me. There is nothing better than coming home after a long day of school, and while removing your makeup, you are welcomed by a soothing scent that gradually helps you feel more relaxed. For people who have sensitive noses and prefer unscented makeup towelettes, I would steer clear of these towelettes. But honestly, I don't think the scent is overbearing at all. It does not linger on the skin after use, and it quickly dissipates.

You get 30 towelettes for around $6-7. I think that is a great bargain, and these should easily last about a month or so-assuming that 1 towelette is used per day. The towelettes are nicely moist-but definitely not over-saturated like most wipes can be. I love that these towelettes have a textured pattern on them. I think the texture works to effectively grab and wipe away every trace of makeup. When it comes to size, although not small by any means, I do wish that these towelettes were a bit larger. That way, one could have more area to use.

Results
I think these towelettes do a great job at removing every layer of makeup on my face. I was most surprised about the fact that these wipes actually work well enough to remove my mascara! Usually, the wipes I have tried in the past, remove my mascara, but I would always find mascara traces when I cleansed my face. That does not happen with these wipes. I also love that these do not sting my eyes, which is a huge plus. I have super sensitive, acne-prone skin and I have not experienced any negative reactions, or skin irritations while using these towelettes. Lastly, my face is not left with a greasy film, after I use these towelettes. Score!

Overall, these cleansing towelettes from Pond's are a WINNER, and I am definitely going to repurchase these once I run out. LOVE!

What do you all think of the Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes? Which are your favorite makeup removers?

Sephora by O.P.I Spark-tacular! Top Coat

When I spotted the Sephora by O.P.I top coat in Spark-tacular! ($9.50), I could not take my eyes off it. I have been intrigued by glitter and all things sparkly-I think its because the holidays are just right around the corner, and this nail color was no exception. It had to come home with me. And, so it did.

(click all images to enlarge)

Sephora by O.P.I Top Coat in Spark-tacular!

Spark-tacular! is a clear based nail polish that contains an exciting variety of larger and smaller green, purple, blue, red, gold, orange, and silver chunky glitters. Its like fun in a bottle! In the bottle, you will find that the smaller glitters are more of a round shape, while the larger glitters have a hexagonal shape. I found that I got a pretty good nail saturation of glitter with 2-3 coats. Of course, you can always apply more layers until you get your desired glitter coverage. (Tip: I like to pat on the glitters with the nail brush on my nail beds, and then follow with a quick swipe when I am done. That way, I can easily stick more chunks of glitter on the nail, as opposed to just swiping my nail bed which basically swipes the glitter away, thus taking longer for the glitter to build up).

The formula was just right-not too thick, but not thin either. The formula was really easy to work with, and the results were quite "spark-tacular" indeed, LOL! (I am sorry, I just had to). Drying time was relatively quick. It took 2 minutes for my nails to dry. When the glitter top coat dries, I feel a texture on my nails. But, its definitely a smooth texture-not gritty or rough at all. As you all can probably imagine, removal was a bit troublesome. As per usual, with most of the glitter nail colors I have encountered. But this glitter top coat is so awesome, I will gladly overlook the hard-to-remove detail. Oh, and its a bonus that this nail color is formulated without DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde.

While trying to figure out how to use this top coat in a nail of the day post, I wanted something that would definitely stand out. I decided to apply a metallic platinum silver, fine shimmered nail color, and used that as my base color. I used Zoya's nail color in Trixie ($8.00)

Zoya-Trixie (2 coats)

After I applied two coats of Zoya's Trixie, I then took Spark-tacular! top coat and applied 2 coats of that. Looking back, I think I should have added a third or fourth coat to get more glitter saturation. But I think the result was fantastic nonetheless. I can't stop staring at my nails. I even got a complement on them! The picture below does not do this nail combination any justice. I promise you all it looks way cooler in person.

(natural light, no flash)

(with flash-still holding strong after 5 days!)

Overall, I am REALLY happy with Spark-tacular! and I can't recommend it enough! I already know that I am going to be layering this top coat over many other nail colors this winter. If you are looking for a fun, colorful, glittered layering top coat that packs a punch, then I highly suggest looking into Spark-tacular! I am sure you will not be disappointed.

What do you all think of Spark-tacular!? What are your favorite layering, glitter top coats?

Products I Have Been Loving Lately: Vol 2

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well, and enjoying your weekend. Have anything exciting planned? I am gearing up for a busy few weeks that I have ahead of me. I have to study this weekend for a math exam, and prepare a presentation for my business class that will take place in a few weeks. I have been super tired lately. When I get home all I want to do is sleep. LOL! The only thing that puts me at ease is the fact that the semester will be over soon-in a month to be exact, and I will be graduating soon. I am almost to the finish line, and to be quite honest, I am a bit scared...But that's another story.

Anyways, I want to share with you all a few beauty products that have been in heavy rotation lately. Let's get to it!

1. Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder- I have been using this bronzer from Benefit everyday for contouring. I also use it for adding a healthy boost of color to my complexion. The weather is cooling down here in NYC and I am paler than usual, so a bronzer is a must in order to add a bit of 'life' to my face. Click HERE for my review and swatches.

2. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft And Gentle- If you are looking for a highlighter that will add a natural looking, healthy glow to your face, look no further. I like to apply a bit of this highlighter along the bridge of my nose, and on the highest points of my cheek bones. It gives my a lit from withing glow. Click HERE for my review and swatches.

3. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer in Neutralizer- I plan on doing a full review of this product very soon, but so far I am really liking this product. I apply this yellow-based neutralizer on my dark, under eye circles and then follow up with my concealer of choice. The neutralizer helps minimize the darkness under the eye area, and allows the concealer to cover more effectively.

4. MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer in NW25- This was my first ever MAC concealer...memories. I don't know why I have left it unused for so long. As you can see, I am almost running low on this concealer, and I just may purchase it again. The shade, NW25, does quite a nice job when it comes to covering my dark, under eye circles.  Its easy to blend as well. A little bit of product goes a long way.

5. E.L.F. Mineral Infused Mascara- When it comes to adding length, this mascara does not disappoint. That's all I will say for now because, I will be writing a review of this product, as well as show some before and after pictures, very soon. So, make sure to be on the lookout for it!

Back to studying I go!

What products are you all loving, lately?

Product Review: N.Y.C. Eye Makeup Remover

Hey Dolls,

Today I am going to share with you all my thoughts on the N.Y.C. Eye Makeup Remover ($3.99). Confession: I hardly ever use eye makeup remover. I rely on makeup removing cloths to do the job for me, even though it does not completely remove all of my eye makeup. Its just that I am so picky when it comes to eye makeup removers. And the majority of the ones that I have tried always end up stinging my eyes, and/or underwhelming me. I saw this eye makeup remover from N.Y.C. at my local Duane Reade drugstore, so I decided to give it a try. Its pretty inexpensive, and I figured I had nothing to lose.

(click all images to enlarge)

N.Y.C. Eye Makeup Remover

Besides being inexpensive, I purchased this eye makeup remover because it is oil-free, and it claims to "gently remove all eye makeup". Gentle and effective are the main two qualities that I look for when it comes to eye makeup removes. Here are some other interesting product facts listed on the back of the packaging...

1. Safe for those who wear contact lenses
2. Safe for sensitive eyes (YAY!)
3. Ophthalmologist tested
4. Fragrance free
5. Dermatologist tested

Sounds like great stuff. But is it really? Well, this eye makeup remover is not horrible, but its also not a complete winner for me. I moistened my cotton ball with the makeup remover, and I then proceeded to remove my eye makeup. I found that it removed my eyeshadow easily, but when it came to mascara (even the non-waterproof kind), it did not completely remove every bit of it. I still detected traces of the mascara on my lashes. I also noticed that it took quite a few swipes to completely remove my eyeliner, which I applied to my lower waterline and top lash line. I had to use two-three cotton balls for each eye.

I did not detect a scent in this eye makeup remover, and I am oh so happy that it did not sting my eyes. It felt very gentle, and it did not leave any film residue on my eye area once I was finished removing the eye makeup. Score!

I really like the simple, travel-friendly bottle. Its great for carrying around in your makeup bag without worries of any spillage, and it allows one to dispense the desired amount of product.

Overall, I think if you don't go super heavy with your eye makeup, this can actually be pretty effective. But if you are looking for an eye makeup remover that will completely remove every bit of mascara and eyeliner, you may want to look into another product. I appreciate that this eye makeup remover is something that will fit in anybody's budget. I have not decided if I will repurchase this eye makeup remover. But, maybe I will seeing as it is affordable and it doesn't hurt to have it around, and use it on those light, eye makeup days.

What do you all think of the N.Y.C. Eye Makeup Remover? What are your favorite eye makeup removers?

Product Rave: E.L.F. Minty Lip Gloss-Nashville

I am a lipstick girl at heart, but sometimes, I can't resist a shiny gloss. When it comes to lip glosses, I prefer if they had a smooth semi-tacky consistency that feels comfortable on the lips while at the same time, allowing for a longer wear time. As for color payoff, I am not really particular when it comes to that. I love glosses that show a hint of color on the lips, but I also love a clear shiny gloss as well. As long as my lips look shiny and they have a pretty sheen to them, I am happy.

After school a few weeks ago, I stopped by a Target nearby and spotted the E.L.F. Minty Lip Gloss in Nashville ($3.00), from their Studio line.

E.L.F. Minty Lip Gloss in Nashville

I would describe Nashville as a clear, neutral beige that contains small, fine golden shimmers. I really like the packaging of the gloss. It looks very sleek, and simple. This gloss contains an angled sponge-tip applicator. I am usually a fan of bush tip lip applicators, but the sponge tip helps me obtain a smooth and even coverage on my lips.

When I first applied Nashville to my lips, I immediately felt a stinging sensation. I am guessing that it was the mint that contributed to this. I must admit, the sensation was a little overbearing at first. But luckily it only lasted for about 2-3- minutes, then it wore down. This gloss has a strong, mint fragrance and I still detect the mint scent on my lips, until the gloss wears off. Its not until 3-4 hours later that I feel the need to apply more of this gloss. I really like how this gloss does not dry out my lips. It feels very comfortable on, and can easily be layered.

Swatch of Nashville Minty Lip Gloss

Nashville has no color payoff on my lips, hence the exclusion of a lip swatch. The golden shimmers are very fine. I don't feel them on my lips at all. Once on my lips, the shimmers are not very noticeable. They peek through just a bit, but they are definitely easy to miss. I think the golden shimmers help give off that healthy looking sheen that my lips have after I apply this gloss, which I love.

On the back of the packaging, E.L.F. says that this gloss not only gives lips a pretty sheen but it also works to  "freshen up your breath." Well, I guess that part could be true. It probably depends on a person's oral hygiene. I will say that this gloss does taste fresh and minty, though. I am constantly chewing on gum most of the day so, I don't know if this gloss alone will be enough to keep my breath fresh all day. But its nice to know that I have an alternative if I ever run out of gum one day, and I need fresh breath ASAP, ha!

All in all, I really like this lip gloss from E.L.F. and I definitely will be on the lookout for other shades in E.L.F.'s Minty Lip Gloss line.

What do you all think of E.L.F.'s Minty Lip Gloss in Nashville?

Product Review: Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm- Peach Kiss

When Maybelline released their new line of Baby Lips Lip Balms, I knew I had to try one for myself. When I saw the selection of Baby Lips lip balms at my local Rite Aid, I spotted a nice mix of clear and tinted ones. I initially was going to go for one of the no-color, clear ones, but I do love a little color on my lips. In the end, I decided to go with the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Peach Kiss ($3.79).

(click all images to enlarge)

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in Peach Kiss

Peach kiss is a neutral peachy beige color that contains small, golden shimmers. To be quite honest, I did not notice that this lip balm had any shimmers when I saw it in the store. It wasn't until I got home and took a closer look at the product that I noticed. That was an interesting surprise.

When I apply this lip balm, it goes on smoothly and evenly. The shimmers don't appear overbearing on the lips. My lips are left with a healthy-looking shine. As for the tint, I don't notice much color on my lips. If at all, maybe a very light hint of beige. Maybe this is because my lips are very pigmented.

Peach Kiss has a fruit-like scent. I am not sure, but I think it may actually be a peach-scent. Once applied to my lips, the scent lessens and I can't hardly smell it anymore. Scents don't really bother me much, so this is not a huge deal breaker for me.

I am very particular when it comes to lip balms. I love when lip balms contain an SPF. Just as we do our face and body, its important that we protect our lips as well from the sun. This lip balm contains an SPF of 20 which is great! As far as lasting power goes, its not until 2-3 hours later, that I feel the need to reapply.

I think the packaging of the balm is adorable. Some may not be fans of the plastic, colorful, girly packaging, but I think its fun. Its probably because I am a sucker for bright colors when it comes to packaging. It gets me every time. Also, I appreciate that the balm twists all the way down, which helps eliminate the risk of the balm getting scraped and nicked by the top.

Ingredients

Although I like how this lip balm appears on my lips, I don't think I will repurchase this particular shade again. My lips are really dry and I don't feel like this lip balm is enough to help moisturize them. I stick to using this lip balm when my lips are less dry, and flake-free. If I apply this lip balm to my lips when they are dry, the flakes peek through and get accentuated. In the future I will probably pick up one of the clear baby lips lip balms. Maybe those will be a bit more moisturizing?

What do you all think of Maybelline's Baby Lips Lip Balm in Peach Kiss? What are your favorite shades?

Nail Of The Day: Wet n' Wild Fastdry Nail Color-Teal of Fortune

Hey Dolls,

Its not often that I spot a lovely shimmered, green teal nail color in drugstores. Especially at super affordable prices. In comes Wet n' Wild Fastdry Nail Color in Teal of Fortune ($1.99), to provide me with my teal nail color fix.

(click all images to enlarge)

Wet n' Wild Fastdry Nail Color in Teal of Fortune

Teal of Fortune is a lovely teal color that contains fine teal, and gold shimmers. I would say that the teal leans more on the greener side as opposed to blue. My camera did not want to work with me when it came to capturing Teal of Fortune's true color in the nail swatch picture, below. I am really sorry lovelies. But, try to  imagine the color as being an almost, deep green teal. That's the true color.

Wet n' Wild  Fastdry Nail Color in Teal of Fortune-3 coats, no top coat (natural light, no flash)

Wet n' Wild Fastdry Nail Color in Teal of Fortune-3 coats, no top coat (with flash)

The teal and gold shimmers feel super smooth on the nails. On the nails, the shimmers are definitely noticeable and it really gives the nail color that extra special something. I literally can't stop looking at my nails, LOL!

When I applied the first coat, I noticed that it went on pretty sheer. But with the addition of a second and third coat, it gave my nails complete opaque coverage. I am happy to report that I did not experience any streaking or air bubbles. I am not so much a fan of the liquid/runny consistency of this nail color. Although easy to work with, I wish the formula would have been a little more on the creamier side. Its just my preference. Drying time was impressively rapid-it surely does lives up to its 'fastdry' name. That, I appreciate.

This color imparts a shiny, glossy finish once dry. Love! As for lasting power, its not until the third day that I notice some tip wear. The only con I can think of with this nail color is that, my nails were stained a bit when I removed this nail color. But overall, I think with Teal of Fortune, you are getting a great bang for your buck. If you are a fan of teal nail colors, Teal of Fortune may be a nail polish you want to look into.

What do you all think of Wet n' Wild's Fastdry Nail Color in Teal of Fortune?
