E.L.F. Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks: French Lace, Little Miss Thing, Midnight Rendezvous

I always appreciate time-saving beauty products. Most days, I don't want to fuss too much with my makeup look-especially, when I am in a hurry. Creamy eyeshadows are one of those items that are great contenders for creating put-together eye looks, that take just minutes to achieve-no tools required. A little blending with the fingers will get the job done in no time.

I haven't had much luck with cream eyeshadows, no thanks to my stubborn oily lids. The only ones that I have found to work best for me are the Maybelline Color Tattoos. Now those can really hang on for hours. While browsing the E.L.F. website, I saw that they had released their new Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks ($2.00, each), so I decided to order a few shades to try out. At just $2.00 a pop, how could I have resisted?

Like many of E.L.F.'s products, these creamy shadows contain Vitamin E, which helps condition the eye area. I love that the sticks contain a functional, twist up/down mechanism, which eliminates the need for sharpening. That's always a bonus.

French Lace: Champagne with glitter chunks. I love champagne colors like this one because they help give my eyes an illuminated, brighter appearance. The smooth glitter particles are on the bigger side, and they are pretty hard to miss when applied, but I think the glitters are a nice touch that add a fun pizzazz to the eyes.

Little Miss Thing: Light gold with shimmer: I can never get enough of gold eyeshadows. This one is very pretty, and a nice pick for creating glam, holiday eye looks.

Midnight Rendezvous: Black with iridescent, holographic glitter. There is something excitedly unexpected about a black base saturated with holographic glitter flecks. When in certain angles/lights, the colors of the glitters are just mesmerizing. There are color shifts of green, gold, silver, and orange. My pictures couldn't capture the beauty of this shade but I assure you, the effect is very pretty when seen in person. The black coloring isn't so harsh once blended on the lids. The color softens a bit, and the glitters really stand out and just dazzles on the lids.

You can most certainly layer powdered eyeshadows over these for a more intense look. But I think these cream shadows look best when worn on their own. They each have a unique quality to them that deserves to shine through. The pigmentation of these shadows don't disappoint, and they go on effortlessly, without pulling or tugging on the delicate eyelid skin. They are also easy to blend and layer, too.

Unfortunately, this is where my rave about E.L.F.'s Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks ends. I feel like these never really dry or set on the lids, and the lasting power is quite disappointing. I first applied these on bare lids and as expected, the shadows started creasing within minutes. When I applied the shadows on primed lids, I was sure that the longevity would fare much better. But that wasn't the case at all. Even on primed lids, these cream shadows creased on me in less than an hour! I also want to mention that these shadow sticks have a strong smell to them-almost like paint, or something of the sort. I am not a fan of the stench, at all.

Overall: Although the colors, finish, and texture were up my alley, I just can't get over how weak these shadows performed when it came to longevity. But keep in mind that I do have very oily eyelids so, those with normal and dry skins may fare better with the lasting power than I did.

What do you all think of E.L.F.'s Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks?

P.S. If your area was one of those that was impacted by Hurricane Sandy, I hope you are all safe and sound. I am in New York and the strong, rough winds were a pretty scary sight yesterday. But luckily, the rain and wind did subside a bit today. It's insane how much damage was done because of this Hurricane. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

  1. I think the colors looks absolutely gorgeous, but I have oily lids, too. So I think I MIGHT get one color, but I'll probably pass. :)

    1. I love the colors, but the lasting power wasn't very good. If your lids are normal-dry, you may have a much better result with longevity, than I did. If you give them a try, let me know how you like them :)
