Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow: Ready, Set, Green

I am sure some of you may remember how impressed I was, with a few of Maybelline's Color Tattoo eyeshadows that I reviewed a few months ago. In fact, Bad To The Bronze is one of my favorite eyeshadows to sport, on an almost daily basis. While at Target a few weeks ago, I spotted this new, limited edition Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Ready, Set, Green, and I didn't hesitate to pick it up. Green is one of my absolute favorite eyeshadow colors because they make my brown eyes stand out. And I am all for emphasizing my eyes.

Maybelline Color Tattoo: Ready, Set, Green

Ready, Set, Green is a stunning jeweled emerald/forest green with small, fine shimmers throughout. As expected, this creamy eyeshadow has a smooth texture that goes on and blends beautifully. I like to use my fingers to apply and blend this product onto my lids, but a tapered eyeshadow brush will do the job, too. After the color is placed on the lids, I suggest working fast with this eyeshadow, as it does tend to dry and set pretty quick.

I am sad to report that I was a little underwhelmed with this particular Color Tattoo eyeshadow. First of all, I found that the color did not show up as vibrant as I had hoped it would. So layering is your best bet to obtain somewhat of a decent color payoff. This eyeshadow does layer easily, but even with 2-3 layers applied, I still wasn't really all that impressed.

Also, the lasting power of this eyeshadow is pretty weak, I think. My problem is not so much with the creasing ( I experienced absolutely no creasing), but with the fading of the color that takes place within the 3-4 hour mark. And that was with primer applied beforehand. I do have oily eye lids, but even the other Maybelline Color Tattoos that I have tried in the past performed exceptionally well when it came to the color remaining vibrant all day. I don't understand what happened with this one?

Here is a quick, and super easy eye look that I came up with, showcasing Ready, Set, Green. With my finger, I patted on Ready, Set, Green all over the lid area, making sure to blend it well on my crease area. Next, I lined my eyes with E.L.F.'s Cream Eyeliner in black, and winged it out. I then applied L'oreal's Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in black on my lower waterline, to add a bit of dimension to the eyes. To finish the look, I brushed on two coats of Maybelline's Illegal Length Mascara in very black, to my top lashes.

Overall: Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Ready, Set, Green is undoubtedly a gorgeous shade that is in tune with the fall/winter season. Texture-wise, it can't get any better than it's creamy, easy to work with consistency. But I have to say, the color fading that I experienced really threw me off. On initial application, the color vibrancy isn't really strong to begin with. So you can probably imagine how it must look like after the color fading starts to take place, after a few hours. When the fading happens, for the rest of the day I am only left with a sheer wash of green on the lids. If you favor sheer eye shadow colors, this may work in your favor. But, I tend to like a little pop of color-especially when it comes to jewel-tones, such as this one. Not all is lost, though. This color is very wearable and will probably come in handy for those days when I don't want too much going on, eye makeup-wise.

What do you all think of Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Ready, Set, Green?

  1. Oh wow, I think that color is just so damn gorgeous in the swatch! That's too bad it doesn't show up as brightly on the skin.

    1. I know! Just by looking at the swatch, one would think that the color would appear that vibrant on the lids as well. But unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me :( Have you tried Maybelline's other Color Tattoo eyeshadows, Sharlynn? Which are your faves, if you have? :)

  3. What a gorgeous colour. Love the Color Tattoo Shadows, just waiting for the new ones to make to Canada so I can collect them too (fingers crossed). I find them great alone, as a base under shadow or as cream liner:)

    1. I love how the Color Tattoos hold up so well on my oily lids! This one held up well-didn't crease, but the color faded fairly quickly :(

  4. It's a great color but too bad about it fading. I would still like to get my hands on it if my walgreens or rite aid ever decides to stock up on them!
