Eyeko: Fat Eye Stick in Chocolate

There are not many cream eyeshadows that can withstand on my oily lids. The only kind that I have found to work brilliantly for me so far are the Maybelline Color Tattoos. Now those can really stay put all day-love them! I have never given Eyeko beauty products a whirl, so I was excited to receive this exclusive, limited edition Eyeko Fat Eye Stick in Chocolate ($15.00), in my May 2012 Birchbox.

Just as the shade name implies, Eyeko's Fat Eye Stick in Chocolate is a lovely deep chocolate brown. The eye stick comes in a chunky pencil packaging, and contains a retractable mechanism which eliminates the need for sharpening.

Thanks to it's creamy and smooth consistency, this pencil glided on my lids effortlessly. I appreciated that it did not tug or pull the delicate skin on my eye lids. Once I applied a layer of the color, I then proceeded to blend the shadow with my finger. Based on my experience with this pencil, I find that over-blending can sheer out the color a bit too much. For more intense color results, I suggest blending out the harsh edges softly, and blending just where it needs it. This color does layer beautifully so, layering is also a nice option to build up the color a bit more.

This eyeshadow is meant to impart a glossy finish to the lids, and I must admit, that tidbit had me really intrigued. The glossy eyelid effect is quite popular in high fashion looks, so to be able to get a similar effect with this eyeshadow pencil was something that I was really looking forward to seeing. I did indeed obtain a subdued glossy, shiny finish that looked very natural and forgiving. But quite frankly, I wouldn't call the effect anything exciting, or noteworthy. It just didn't do anything for me, to be honest. I feel like I could achieve the same effect with a shimmered/frosted eyeshadow.

Lasting power was not impressive. Even with an eyeshadow primer applied beforehand, this stuff creased and faded within the 1-2 hour mark. The color isn't too strong to begin with, so the color faded significantly-almost to the point where it disappeared. Not cool!

Overall: Unfortunately, I wasn't blown away by Eyeko's Fat Eye Stick in Chocolate. I didn't like the precautionary steps to avoid over-blending, the lasting power wasn't the greatest, and the fading was a let down. I definitely wouldn't recommend this product for those who have oily lids. Maybe those who have normal-dry skin, might fare better with this product than I did.

What do you all think of Eyeko's Fat Eye Stick in Chocolate?

    1. It is! :) Do you like creamy shadows? If so, which are your favorites?

  2. I love the color of it, but the staying power was what would leave me let-down. I have combo skin with oily lids, so I'm sure it would wear off fast!!
