E.L.F. Studio: HD Blush

I have tried a few cream blushes over the years, but something about them intimidates me and pushes me away. I think it's because I have gotten too comfortable with powder blushes, and their ease of application. Well, in comes E.L.F. to try and help ease the rift between cream blushes and I. When I saw that E.L.F. released their new Vitamin E infused Studio HD blushes ($3.00, each), I was all over them. I went ahead and ordered all five colors. These creamy beauties just looked too promising to pass up.

L-R: Headliner, Superstar, Diva, Encore, Showstopper

Swatches From L-R: Headliner, Superstar, Diva, Encore, Showstopper

Headliner: Medium, warm pink/peach. This is my favorite of the bunch. It was the most natural-looking, and it's a very forgiving shade. This one had a semi-thick, smooth and creamy texture that was easy to blend.

Superstar: Vivid coral. This is my second favorite of the bunch. The color is super flattering on, it perks up my cheeks, and the creamy texture was nice to work with.

Diva: Hot pink. Whoa! Now this is what I call bright-too bright, actually. This color is easy to overdo so, a tiny bit really goes a long way with diva. This one had a creamy consistency.

Encore: Fuchsia pink. Very pretty shade. Like diva, this color is also an easy one to overdo. The consistency of this one was on the creamy side.

Showstopper: Deep plum. I don't normally go for shades like this one on my cheeks, but I couldn't resist giving it a try. Plus, the plum is so perfect for the fall. I applied showstopper to my cheeks and...let's just say that I bit off more than I could chew with this one. The color just looked too overbearing on my cheeks. Such a shame that I couldn't pull it off because the color is gorgeous. The texture of this one was on the thicker side.

I like that these blushes are housed in a travel-friendly and hygienic pump bottle. The pump is easy to control-when it's working properly. Unfortunately, the pump usually gets stuck sometimes. When this happens, I have to be super careful when pumping up and down, or else too much product dispenses. And believe me, with these heavily pigmented blushes, you will never need excess product. A little-and I mean little, will always be more than sufficient.

When it comes to application, I first dab on a bit of the product onto my cheeks, and start blending the blush in upward motions with clean fingers. If I want a little more blending action, a stippling brush works fine as well. These take a little while to set so there is some room to work with these until then. I suggest making sure the skin is well moisturized, prior to application. If not, you may obtain patchy and uneven color results, when blending. Also, the dry areas can become enhanced.

Each of the blushes contain tiny, micro-shimmers that give that soft focus effect, that HD beauty products are known for. Since the shimmers are so small, they aren't very apparent on the cheeks. I really like how lightweight the blushes feel on, and the satin like finish is beautifully smooth to the touch. So luxurious. The lasting power is even better. The blushes last all day on my cheeks, with no fading. These really hold on!

I am sure the majority of us love pigmented beauty products. And the fact that these blushes offer amazing color payoff is great. But I have to admit, it's products like these ones that make me question how much is too much, when it comes to color pigmentation in beauty products? Diva, encore, and showstopper are all gorgeous colors. But the reality is that they are too pigmented for me to pull off. No matter how little of the blush I apply, or how much I blend and try to sheer out the color, the results are always too intense. Although, I have no doubt that beauties with deeper skin tones may have better luck with those three, than I did. The only two that are wearable for me are headliner and superstar. They are the ones that are easiest to blend/sheer out, and they look the most natural on.

Overall: The two that I would repurchase are headliner and superstar. Since I first got them, I have really enjoyed using them. They are both great colors, that give natural looking, effortless results. Diva, encore, and showstopper were just too pigmented to work with-at least for me. Such a shame because they really are gorgeous. I hope to find a way to make these work. All in all, I think these blushes are worth a try. They are affordable, and these definitely don't disappoint in the pigment department. Those of you who love intense, full-on, long lasting blush colors, are sure to be content with these.

What do you all think of E.L.F.'s HD Blushes? Which are your favorites?
