E.L.F. Studio: 3-in-1 Mascara

There are two qualities that I look for when it comes to mascaras. They need to be able to give my lashes length and/or volume. It's an ever better treat if the mascara gives me both, and maybe a little extra. I have a few mascaras that I have found to enjoy, but being the makeup aficionado that I am, I can't help but try out more! So today, I am going to be sharing with you all my thoughts on E.L.F.'s 3-in-1 Mascara ($3.00), which is part of their studio line. This mascara promises to give lashes a whole lot of length, volume, and definition.

Keep reading to see if it did just that!

The flexible, silicone brush is what drew me into trying this mascara. I have never used a mascara with this sort of brush, where it contains a round, ball shape at the tip. The round tip is perfect for coating the lashes that are in the inner corners, and I can't even begin to tell you all how great the tip is, for use on the lower lashes. I don't usually apply mascara to my lower lashes because, I think it's too much of a fuss sometimes. The clumping, the smearing, etc....I just can't be bothered. But this brush makes it super easy to give my lower lashes a little mascara love, too. To use the round tip, I hold the brush vertically, and carefully coat my lashes with product. Easy, and it gives me awesome, natural looking results every time.

Out of the three abilities, I would have to agree with two. Length and definition. My lashes naturally, have a decent amount of length to them and as you can see in the picture above, this mascara did lengthen and define my lashes, which is great. As for volume? Maybe a bit, but definitely nothing to write home about in my opinion.

I have to say that plastic bristled mascara brushes are my favorite kind because, I think they do a fabulous job in the lash separation department. But this brush proved to be quite tricky if one didn't have the application strategy right. I suggest not going over two coats with this one as it does tend to clump, a bit. And also, try not to let the lashes dry in between coats to avoid extra clumping. It's best to work quickly.

I am happy to report that for the most part, this mascara held on all day. It didn't smudge but, I did spot some mascara flakes under my eyes, after a few hours. A very minimal amount though, that could easily be wiped away. When it came down to removal, the process was no trouble at all. As I removed this mascara, it came off in small, flaky chunks. Fibers, perhaps? I found that both water and eye makeup remover, could do the trick just fine.

Overall, I think this mascara is a nice, affordable option for those who are looking for long and defined lashes. But if loads of volume is your thing, this won't do much there. Layering a volumizing mascara on top, is sure to amp up the volume power, though. I probably would repurchase this mascara again, just because I think it works so well on my lower lashes. And I really enjoyed the length and definition it provided my lashes, as well.

What do you all think of E.L.F.'s 3-in-1 Mascara? Which are your favorite mascaras?

  1. I've never tried this mascara but I definitely look for volume, so this one probably wouldn't be a love-match for me and my lashes! :-(
