Fresh: Sugar Lip Treatment, Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment

I stopped by Sephora on the day of my birthday, a few days ago, to not only do a little shopping but, to also receive my beauty insider birthday gift! I received the Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo which contains two generous, mini sizes of Fresh's sugar lip treatments-the original Sugar Lip Treatment and, the Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment.

Quick Product Facts about both lip treatments (from the Sephora website)

Top To Bottom: Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment, Sugar Lip Treatment

Before I share my thoughts on the actual balm themselves, I just have to first talk about the genius tube packaging. These lip balms aren't housed in your ordinary plastic tube with a pop off cap. These come in a sleek and sturdy metal? tube that twists open! This is especially convenient for those of us who love to travel with our lip balms. You don't run the risk of having the top come loose in your bag, and creating a mess.

Both lip balms have a really yummy lemon scent. The lemon fragrance lasts a little while on the lips, before it begins to slowly fade. These lip balms go on really smoothly on the lips, although they do feel a little waxy and heavy, on. I like the shine that these impart. My lips certainly look much smoother, and healthier. The original Sugar Lip Treatment goes on colorless, while the Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment provides a pretty, subtle rosy pink tint. The later gives a my lips but better, effect.

When it comes to lasting power, it is not until 2-3 hours later that I feel the need to reapply these balms, again. There is one thing that worries me when it comes to these lip balms. Both balms have a thin stick shape that when combined with their super soft texture, makes them very susceptible for a chunk to accidentally break off, while applying. When I first applied these, I noticed that the balm stick was wiggling around so, my advice would be to not extend the balm too much. Twist it up enough, that a bit of the lip balm is peeking through the opening. Also, don't apply these with too much force. A light hand is the way to go. Although I think the outside tube is sturdy, I think the inside needs some work, to make sure the product is safe from possible breakage. Maybe a thicker and wider lip balm could have more resistance, while still maintaining its soft texture.

Overall, I think these lip balms are nice but, I don't think these will be replacing my HG Rosebud Salve Lip Balm, anytime soon. The regular-sizes of these balms retail for $22.50, each. I think the price is a little outrageous, to be honest. I certaintly don't see myself spending that much for something so basic, like a lip balm. For that to happen, it has to be a product that blows me away. And, I just didn't get that feeling with these two. In any case, I am still glad that I got to try these mini versions.

Have any of you tried these lip treatments from Fresh? Which are your favorite lip balms?

  1. I picked the dup up in January for my birthday as well. I previously owned the full-size of the original version, years back, but gave it away because I wasn't impressed with the product or the PRICE TAG! However, when I got mini-duos I fell in love with the original version again. And I'm considering repurchasing it when I run out of the mini. It has been a life (lip) saver this winter. I'm haven't used the Rose tinted one, actually I probably won't. I'm not into tinted lip balms this shade.

The stick itself is slightly wobbly, but youre right, it is because it is so thin. The full size, thicker tube, does not have this problem. Thought that might be useful to know :)

Great review! Oh and Happy Belated!

    1. Thank You for the birthday wish, Brittany! :) And thank you for the info about the full-size tube not having the wobbly problem, like these mini ones do. I am really happy to hear that because, it would have been a real shame if the fuller sized ones had the same issue-especially at that price! *_*

  3. What an awesome birthday gift from Sephora! I have a couple of these, the plum and original and I do love them for the winter. They keep my lips hydrated while adding a tint (well the plum one). However, I do agree with you the price is outrageous :( The packaging is another thing I did love :)
