Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows: Bold Gold, Bad To The Bronze, Pomegranate Punk, Tough As Taupe

I don't think I have ever been impressed with a cream eyeshadow. Since I have oily eyelids, I have always avoided cream eyeshadows because, the creasing is just inevitable. Cream eyeshadows look so promising but, my oily eyelids just aren't having it. Well, what if I told you all that there actually are cream eyeshadows that can last on the lids, that can take on the oil, creasing, and fading? Finally, something that works for us who have issues with oily lids! If at one point any of you have given up hope on creamy eyeshadows-like I have, don't make any drastic decisions yet until you have tried Maybelline's new Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadows ($7.49, each).

Initial Thoughts
The beauty community has been raving non stop, about these cream gel eyeshadows. And, I can definitely see why. These are fabulous! I never thought that I would say that about a cream gel eyeshadow-ever. These really are worth the hype-well, the shades I am showing you all today, are. But I have a feeling that the other shades are just as nice. As you can see, the four shades that I picked out, lean on the neutral side. I decided to play it safe and go for shades that I normally wear the most. But if you are one who loves color, there are other fun colorful shades available, that will suit your fancy. These have even been compared to MAC paint pots. I can't compare the two products because I have never tried a MAC paint pot, before. But, I have read good things about them.

The glass jar packaging, although not very hygienic, feels very sturdy. If I am not mistaken, glass packaging helps keep the product fresh much longer, which is nice. I like how the colors are shown on the bottom of the jars. Makes it super easy to reach for the color you want to use. My only fear with these is that they will dry out. I have had these for about a month and, so far so good. They are still really creamy.

Application
When it came to applying these cream/gel eyeshadows, I like to use my fingers. It's much quicker and effective that way, I think. But of course, you can use a flat eyeshadow shader brush, if you'd like. I pick up some product onto my finger, then I quickly pat/blend the color all over my lids. Notice how I am emphasizing the word quickly. Time is not on your side when it comes to this product. These set super fast-almost instantly so, you gotta work quick-especially, if you want to get a little blending action in. After they have set, these won't budge.

The consistency of the eyeshadows was nice to work with. They are creamy but they have a slip to them that helps with blending and evenly distributing the color. I found it was really easy to intensify the color of these. Even after they have set, you can go back for more product and layer, until you get the desired amount of opaqueness.

Experience
I tested these over an eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion) and, on bare lids without a primer. While testing their wear time, I was just astonished at the results. Honestly, I thought that these eyeshadow would no doubt crease, on my un-primed, oily lids. Well, based on my results, these eyeshadows stayed in tact on BOTH the primed and bare lids! There was no creasing, and no fading. It was unbelievable. Although these claim to last 24 hours, I did not wear them for that amount of time. The longest I have worn these was for 9 hours but, I have no doubt in my mind that these can last much longer if need be.

Although these eyeshadows last on my non-primed lids, I prefer to use them with an eyeshadow primer, only because I have brown discoloration on my lids. The discoloration alters the eyeshadow color and makes it look a bit lackluster, and not very true to color. With an eyeshadow primer, the primer helps cancel out the discoloration and provides a smooth even base for the eyeshadows. If you don't have any lid discoloration, you can totally get away with applying these without an eyeshadow primer.

Final Thoughts
I think these eyeshadows are simply great and, I highly recommend you try one, or a few of these. The colors are nicely pigmented, the lasting power is phenomenal, and they are affordable and readily available at drugstores. I love all of the shades I picked up but, my favorite would have to be Bad To The Bronze. I have been sporting it almost daily, since I purchased it. I apply a quick layer of Bad To The Bronze on my lids, a highlight color on my browbone, a bit of eyeliner, some mascara, and done. Simple eyes that takes minutes to achieve. Also, these eyeshadows are super versatile-you can use them alone, as bases for your powdered eyeshadows, or even as eyeliner. I hope that Maybelline will release new color tattoo shades in the future. I would love to see colors such as black, nude beige, deep navy blue, and coral. How amazing would that be?

  4. I love them! I tested bad to the bronze at first and the lasting power is amazing. So I got myself all 10. So worth the low price and I do like the shade selection as well. Even MAC paint pots creased on me and I have oily lids. I'm glad Maybelline came out with these!

    1. I appreciate your kind words, Anel :) You are too sweet! Are you thinking of picking up the bolder shades of the color tattoos? I have my eyes on the purple and emerald one. Although, I heard that the consistency of the purple one wasn't too good.
