Product Review: Tarte Smooth Operator Oil-Free Foundation With SPF 20

Hey Dolls!

I feel like this post is long overdue! In past postings, I have written that I will be reviewing this foundation soon, etc...finally the time has come hehehe!

As you all my know, Tarte is a very popular all natural cosmetics-line and you can find out more about Tarte by going to their website (http://www.tartecosmetics.com/) or by simply finding their products at Sephora stores. This foundation was my first introduction to Tarte because I was looking for a foundation that was all natural, free of parabens, and something that would be good and beneficial for my acne-prone and sensitive skin. I saw the Tarte Smooth Opeartor SPF 20 Foundation ($35.00) at Sephora and decided to give it a go because it had everything I was looking for...so why not try it? Did I love it? Read on to find out!

What I mostly love about this foundation is the list of all the benefits it has and what it does not contain:

Has:
1. Chamomille Extract that is used to treat dry skin
2. Vitamin C which is an antioxidant that is used to prevent premature aging
3. SPF 20
4. Vitamins A and E which help fight free radical damage
5. Contains Mineral Pigments and Sodium Hyaluronate which is an ingredient that is used to
help keep skin moisturized
6. Dermatologist Tested

What it does not contain (and what our skin can do without):

1. Sulfates
2. Fragrance
3. Dyes
4. Petro-Chemicals
5. Oil-Free
6. Phthalates

Tarte Smooth Operator SPF 20 Foundation-Veil

I have been using this foundation for about 2 years. I am already on my 2nd bottle. Which means that I do like it, and it was worth a re-purchase. But it does have it's little perks...But first the good stuff.

Pros:
1. Applies like a dream-never goes on cakey or accentuates my dry flakes
2. Feels cooling on the skin
3. Gives my skin a dewy glow (not oily) appearance
4. Very moisturizing and leaves my skin soft
5. Does not break me out. Feels very light on, which makes this a perfect summer foundation
7. Gives my skin a nice even finish
8. Color match is perfect for me (I have the shade Veil-which is best for light/medium skin with yellow undertones).
9. Love the hygienic packaging

Cons:
1. Does not control my Oily T-Zone (nose, forehead, chin) unless I set it with a good setting
powder
2. The coverage is light to medium. I am very dissapointed to say that it does not cover my acne, or acne scars in any way no matter how much I pile this stuff on
3. A tad bit expensive at $35, but I guess it is ok seeing as a bottle lasts a long time (1.7 FL.Oz)
4. I feel as if this is more of a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation

Overall, this is a really nice product. Especially for those who have sensitive, acne-prone skin as it does not irritate the skin whatsoever. This product is great also for people who want a simple, evened out coverage. But if you are looking for a full coverage product, than this foundation is not for you. I would definitely repurchase a 3rd bottle of this foundation once I run out of this one. It's ok if it does not give me that full coverage that I want, I just go back to those troubled spots and apply some concealer to cover it up a bit more.

have any of you tried the Smooth Operator by Tarte? Loved it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments section!
Editor's Note: I checked the Tarte website a little more closely and noticed that this product is no longer called Smooth Operator Oil Free Foundation with SPF 20, on the website it is known now as Smooth Operator Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer With SPF 20.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of the companies mentioned above. I purchased this product for my personal use.
