Review│L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation

Cushion foundations are having a major moment right now, and L'Oreal are one of the most recent ones to join the expansive cushion foundation lineup with their True Match Lumi Cushion foundation ($16.99).

True Match Lumi Cushion is a liquid foundation that's infused in an innovative sponge, which distributes the perfect amount of product, every time. The formula offers a sheer-medium buildable coverage for a natural looking, luminous finish. This foundation is available in 12 shades, is said to be good for all skin types-even sensitive ones, and it won't clog pores.

My thoughts...

*I love the packaging. The mirrored compact is very attractive, sturdy, and lightweight. I appreciate the extra seal which keeps the foundation in the cushion moist, and from drying out.

*I am an NC25 in MAC foundations, and after doing a bit of research online, I decided to go with the shade N3.5 classic buff in this foundation. The color falls on the more neutral end of the spectrum, since it's not too yellow nor too pink. I do find that the color is just a smidgen dark for me. But I can make it work.

*This foundation is pretty buildable as far as coverage goes. You can make it light and sheer with one layer, or medium with the addition of another layer. I think this foundation does a nice job at evening out my skin. It doesn't completely cover my acne scarring, but I don't mind going in with some concealer on my problem areas.

*This foundation feels super lightweight on the skin, and the finish is very natural looking and luminous.

*When it comes to application, the included applicator puff just doesn't cut it for me. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like the sponge absorbs way too much of the product. I highly recommend applying this foundation with a damp Beauty Blender sponge (review). Doing so makes application effortless. You not only get good coverage, but the finish that results is also more skin-like and natural looking. You could use a brush to apply this foundation if you wanted to, but I found that the brush didn't give me much of a seamless look. Beauty Blender all the way!

*So far my experience with L'Oreal's True Match Lumi Cushion sounds pretty good, right? Well, turns out I did come across an issue with it. My skin did not agree with this foundation. 2-3 hours into wearing this foundation, my face looks like a huge oil slick. My forehead, nose, and chin are pretty oily and the oil in those areas can get out of control. My cheeks which are usually on the drier side, also had some oil peeking through. Setting my face with some powder unfortunately did not help keep the oil at bay.

Overall: L'Oreal's True Match Lumi Cushion foundation was almost a good contender for me. I loved the packaging, the luminous finish, the coverage, and how nice it felt on the skin. It didn't even irritate my skin or break me out, which is pretty noteworthy for my sensitive skin. But I just can't get over how oily my face looked with this foundation. Sigh. If your skin is normal to really dry though, I think this foundation is definitely worth a try as it may work better for your skin type.
